Magruder & Pervious
Concrete - A History
During the early
1980’s Magruder
Construction’s personnel were among the first, and to date
remain the leader in pervious concrete construction.
Although pervious concrete was initially only approved as a
porous pavement under the drip lines of trees, Magruder's
personnel soon saw the importance of its permeability in
storm water control and expanded its construction of the
ridged pervious pavement to a continuous ribbon or train
though out the parking lots. This ribbon or train is the
source of capturing storm water which aloud the water to
pass through the pervious pavement and “perk” into the
porous soil below. These early applications were placed
directly on compacted soils and were designed essentially
the same as other impermeable pavements such as conventional
concrete and asphalt. Many of these early applications
remain in use today without any overlay requirements.
Magruder Construction’s more recent applications have
involved the placement of pervious concrete pavements over a
layer of clean gravel or crushed stone. This layer acts as a
structural base and as an onsite storm water detention
basin. This dual-use design saves the developer a
significant amount of money due to the fact it will greatly
reduce, if not eliminate all together, the need of any
conventional storm water infrastructure. This application
may be applied where soils or not as porous as the sandy
soils found in Florida.
Magruder
Construction’s quality control personnel will help in
assuring the pervious concrete mix design is produced with
the correct amounts of Portland cement, coarse aggregates
along with water and add mixtures to insure a quality high
strength product.
The placement of the pervious concrete
itself is of course another area where a elevated level of
quality control must be performed. This high level of
quality control along with highly experienced personnel has
propelled
Magruder
Construction as the profound leader in the previous concrete
pavement industry. You will find a list of satisfied
Magruder
Construction customers that include government agencies,
commercial developers and many others from the private and
corporate sector within this site.
