Pervious
Concrete - Dual Use Systems
"The best way
to deal with storm water runoff is to catch it BEFORE it
runs off."
The
Dual-Use system is a non-proprietary rigid pavement parking
lot with a clean gravel base. Rainfall that lands on
the pavement passes very quickly through the pervious
concrete, and is stored in the layer of gravel for
infiltration. This water will also replenish the
aquifer. This system acts as both the parking lot and
the storm water storage treatment mechanism. Both
systems use the same land space instead of two separate
areas. This allows developers to reduce or eliminate
the costs associated with other storm water systems.
The system can also be used for
LEED Certification.
The system
of pervious pavements, and gravel base is recommended by the
National Institute of Building Sciences, the EPA
(Environmental Protection Agency) and the US Corps of
Engineers.
